The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of cultivation of some agronomic plant specieson soil fungal and bacterial populations, basal and substrate induced respirations (BR and SIR), organicand microbial biomass carbon (OC and MBC) in different sampling sites. The experiment was considered a completely randomized design as factorial in three replicates. The factors were plant species (10 different species and control) and soil sampling site (soil adhering to root mat, rhizospheresoil and nonrhizospheric soil). The thin slicing technique was modified and used to sample rhizosphere soil. Results showed that plant species like Solanum lycopersicum, Lathyrus sativus and Phasaeolousvulgaris mediated more suitable environmental condition for soil bacterial communities compared tofungal communities. The values of qCO were higher in soil planted with Zea mays, S. tuberosum, P. vulgaris, Lepidium sativum, and Carthamus tinctorius. The ratios of SIR/MBC in soils adhering to the root mat and rhizosphere soils of Triticum aestivum, Z. mays, S. tuberosum and S. lycopersicum were unexpectedly lower than those in respective nonrhizosphere soils.
